Shared Data Protection Officer

Chaucer / Digital / GDPR & Data Privacy / Shared Data Protection Officer

The aim of GDPR is to protect the rights of data subjects who reside within the EU, not to burden small businesses with additional costs. That is why, in some circumstances, the legislation allows groups of similar organisations to share a Data Protection Officer.

How can Chaucer help?

We appreciate that not being granted an exception to Article 37 was an unwelcome surprise for certain medical services providers.

Recognising this, we offer a Shared Data Protection Officer service in support of pharmacies, optometrists, dental practices, GPs & smaller medical centres based within the same geographical area, allowing you to share an outsourced DPO.

What can our Group DPO service deliver?

Our aim is to make the appointment of a Shared Data Protection Officer as easy as possible. Our service includes:

  • Getting you compliant. We sit down with your and your team, map out your Article 30 processes, review all relevant policies and documentation, and identify and help you to fill in any gaps you might still have in your processes
  • Managing your Subject Access Request process and advising on how to respond to them
  • Ongoing advice, as needed, to support changes to processes or systems
  • Legal registration as your Shared Data Protection Officer, liaising between the ICO and data subjects
  • Regular updates on legislative changes, case law and ICO or EDPR advice
  • Access to our cloud-based tool to monitor SARs
  • Creating a single source of truth to help protect you in case of a data breach or audit

We understand that GDPR does not operate in isolation, and will always consider your obligations under PECR (ePrivacy) and (for example) relevant Department of Health & NHS codes of practice.
