Chaucer / Chaucer News  / Chaucer with Care in Action – 2019 MCA Finalist

We are proud to announce that Chaucer with Care in Action have been shortlisted as finalists in the Social and Environmental category at the 2019 MCA Awards.

A small German NGO, Care in Action’s vision is to ensure that the most vulnerable children receive the support they need to improve their wellbeing, develop their full potential and succeed at leading a self-determined, independent life.

Their Ukraine operation largely looks after orphans and children otherwise displaced from their families, and their objectives are to help them overcome trauma, obtain the knowledge and skills they need to thrive and enable them to positively integrate into society.

Chaucer and Care in Action came together to bring the expertise and experience of a management consulting team to help the Ukraine operation achieve sustainable growth, while continuing to keep the children and the families they support at the heart of everything they do.

After an initial discovery phase, the two organisations worked together to identify the requirements and scope of the project. Through a series of workshops delivered to Care in Action staff in L’viv, our team were able to:

  • Build Project Management capability
  • Advise on Marketing & PR
  • Align KPI reporting with their strategy
  • Introduce Design Thinking to define software tool requirements
  • Advise on the fundraising strategy, and
  • Introduce best practices in Knowledge Management

This was a transformative experience resulting in long term benefits on their ability to become self-sufficient and sustainable in the Ukraine. By increasing delivery capability and introducing more efficient ways of working, our expertise have helped them to continue improving the lives of thousands of children in care as well as hundreds of carers.

Thanks to everyone’s commitment, Care in Action now boast a brighter outlook; with an array of new and flexible tools adapted to their specific needs, bespoke action plans to help make future ideas a reality and an overall improvement in their capability to deliver. Through the Knowledge Transfer activities, they were also able to offer direct development opportunities to their existing Ukrainian staff.

Our consultants have learnt new skills through this opportunity to apply their knowledge in completely different situations and as result, they have become more rounded as individuals and as team.

The sense of purpose and commitment exhibited by them has inspired a new, dedicated Volunteering & Pro-Bono Consulting arm of our CSR strategy. We are proud to support this pro-bono engagement and we would like to thank and congratulate everyone who participated in this project.
